Dream High 드림하이 (Finished 5/16)  Tags: Music, Comedy, Romance, Drama Dream High tells the story of six students at Kirin Art High School who work to achieve their dreams of becoming music stars in the Korean music industry. Go Hye Mi is a student who majored in classical music but has to give up her dream by entering Kirin Art High School to pay off her father's debt. However, she needs to get two other students to also come to the school in order for her to enroll in the school conditionally. These two students are Song Sam Dong, who lives in the countryside, and Jin Guk, whom she accidentally meets while trying to escape from a loan shark. Yoon Baek Hee, formerly Hyemi's sidekick, becomes her rival in school because Hye Mi betrays her during an audition to enter the school. Pop side is ok, but kdrama is not, and very soon it becomes just a school and everything goes downhill from there. Overall Rating: 6/10 |

Dan Sa Ran majored in classical dance while attending college. Her mother died when she was still young and her father remarried, bringing with him a new stepsister and a materialistic stepmother whom she has trouble warming up to. Sa Ran comes from a poor family, but she maintains her dignity around friends who come from rich families. Either fate or coincidence brings her together with Da Mo, to whom she feels an instant attraction, but her awareness of her poor background restrains her from voicing it. A head gisaeng at Buyongkak observes Sa Ran's natural beauty and grace as well as dancing talent, and recommends her to become a gisaeng. Ah Da Mo takes business administration training at his father's company. He does not get along with his father, who is indifferent towards his family and only shows affection towards their pet dog. Da Mo is cocky and tends to look down on women, but begins to question his attitude when he meets Sa Ran by chance. He finds himself involuntarily drawn to her, and their relationship begins. One day, Jit killed Prawet by burning him. Traipoom, Prawet's son decides to follow his father's wish and tries to look for the lost treasures in order to take them back to the cave. Hundreds of years later, Traipoom has lived his immortal life as a normal person. In an antique auction event, he meets Plaichat. They started working together and eventually developed mutual feelings. Though the more Plaichat stays close to Traipoom, the more she wonders about him because she finds that Traipoom doesn't eat, sleep or live his life like a normal human being. Ram, Jit's son, and Maya, the girl who falls in love with Ram, try to obstruct Traipoom from returning the treasures. Ram meets Plaichat and falls in love with her. Finally, Traipoom found the 116 pieces of treasure. The only one missing is the Dragon. The knife can free Traipoom from immortality. However, Ram wants to keep his immortality, so he fights with Traipoom over that knife and Plaichat. Simplistic banality of interactions with nonsense supernatural features. Overall Rating: 5/10 |

In contrast, Han Yu Gyeong has a birth secret for which she is willing to throw away everything in order to get revenge. It's logical, without big conflicts and with adequate actors, so above average already. But at the same time length is excessive, revenge is never a good addition and romance is weak, so only above average. Overall Rating: 6/10 |

18. Gou - Himetachi no Sengoku 江〜姫たちの戦国〜 (Finished 10/46)  Tags: Historical, Drama The 50th NHK Taiga drama is Gou. The story focuses on the life of Gou, the wife of the second Tokugawa shogun Hidetada. Gou was the third daughter of the daimyo Azai Nagamasa, who was married to the sister of Oda Nobunaga. One of Gou's older sisters was the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, while the other married the daimyo Kyogoku Takatsugu. I'm sorry, but this is just average. Same Sengoku key events are showed from eyes of naïve, bratty yet lucky girl. Too much cheesing as here women out of the blue start to influence minds and events during such rigorous times, very unbelievable. Overall Rating: 5/10 |

Tupe, however, is a stern guy who is a workaholic and doesn’t care for any romance. So when Tien meets Krachao at a beauty pageant, it was like love at first sight–or so he thought. Tien’s mother got very worried and asked Tupe to fly back from Switzerland to deal with his little brother. Meanwhile, his father doesn’t really care and totally stays indifferent. Krachao didn’t exactly care for Tien thinking that he was just some drunk loser that she would never meet again. Plus, she didn’t have the time to deal with him anyway since she has a drunkard as a mother and her father left to be with some other woman issues to deal with! Krachao’s mother keeps on pressuring her into finding a rich husband so that they’d be rich, hoping that Krachao’s father would come back to them. Krachao caves in and decides to go to work where Meegrob is working when she found out that the family have a single son! And you guess it, Tupe and Tien are the owners of the Rachinee Orchid Farm, the best and most well-known orchid farm in Thailand. A little mishap occurred that caused Tupe to believe that Krachao is a terrible woman. He tries in every way to get in between Krachao and Tupe in order to protect his little brother. Usual shouting, toxicity and fighting, but now also with silly slapstick comedy... Overall Rating: 5/10 |

He ends up tending to her, and the two are soon drawn to each other. Amnesia and terminal condition are cheesy while psychotic husband straight repulsive, so it's not masterpiece material. Just as with The Legend of Bruce Lee, this is expected to be export product and thus of higher quality. After finishing first Sageuk wanted to finish some Chinese historical drama, and this one may be as good as it may get, so why not. To be honest, I regret time wasted on it. Romance line is squeezed from thin air. Quality is fine, but the matter is not. It's ancient history and such concepts are always primarily fantasy, but in this particular case everything may easily be made up since earliest traces of "Art of War" date a century later and since contemporary in the main biggest historical work on the battle of Boju does not mention Sun Tzu was was supposed to be main general there. So it's a fairy tale about non-existing person at that time, and even from tactical point of view there's zero success in the end, just return to square one and then theorizing that it was actually all about peaceful cohabitation after so many wars... it's not logical and fake. Seichiro Naruse is a passionate person, who worked at construction sites for 20 years with a mid-sized general contractor. However, in order to keep a promise he made to his former teacher, he suddenly changes jobs and becomes the principal of his old school, which he must save from closing down. Good GTO-likes present a decent enough teacher and well written students. Here we have a teacher who used to play only silly roles and thus is not treated seriously, plus students are pretty young (maybe even elementary school) and not memorable while problems aren't great either.
